Consider this idea: schools public open from 8 am to 6 pm, so parents can reduce the need for daycare costs...
Family Friendly Schools Act is a new bill proposed by Senators Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Kamala Harris of California.
They want to try it out: 500 pilot elementary schools across the county, open for 10 hours a day, to help working parents by aligning school hours with the typical workday. It would be voluntary and paid for by federal grants.
Brown's office says the extra hours would be filled with academic and athletic enrichment opportunities with help from community partners. The extra staffing would be paid for with grant money and teachers who agree to stay late would be paid overtime.
No hearings for the bill have been scheduled yet.
