( Cincinnati ) - In an announcement on Monday morning, the owner of what used to be called US Bank Arena formally declared that it's entered into a new naming rights agreement with Heritage Bank.
The decades-old venue on Broadway St near Great American Ball Park will now be called Heritage Bank Arena.
In a statement, Nederlander Entertainment says transformation of the arena has already begun. The facility first opened as Riverfront Coliseum in 1975. It has since been known as The Crown and FirstStar Center. US Bank discontinued its naming sponsorship this past August.
The ownership group has been working to broker a deal to tear down the arena and build a new one, though the question of how much taxpayer money would be involved in such a venture has been unclear.
