Harmful Algae Bloom Detected On Ohio River

(Cincinnati) - Harmful Algae Bloom has been found on the Ohio River, prompting health departments to ask people to use caution when swimming or boating on the river.

The Cincinnati Health Department and Greater Cincinnati Water Works says the bloom is in the area of Cincinnati and portions of the river both up and downstream. The water department says that drinking water is safe.

Harmful Algae Blooms are made up of blue-green algae, but can also appear in a red, purple or brown hue. Anyone who comes into contact with the blooms can suffer from fever, vomiting, headache, fever and muscle weakness.
