( Dearborn County, Indiana ) - Lack of rain has county leaders in southeast Indiana taking steps to prevent future problems.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, Dearborn County Commissioners have issued a burn ban. Saying the drought has dried vegetation to the point it may easily catch fire, county leaders are now declaring:
- Campfires or other recreational fires are banned (unless they're in a fire ring)
- No open burning (with the exception of grills)
- No open debris burning (with the exception of burn barrels with a mesh top)
Anyone found to be violating the ban will be subject to a fine not less than $200 and no more than $1,000 plus court costs.
