( Warren County ) - After an emotional presentation of evidence and witnesses, the jury in the trial of Brooke Skylar Richardson only needed a little over four hours to reach a decision.
The 12 men and women found the 20-year-old from Carlisle not guilty on the most serious charges: aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, and child endangering. They did, however, find her guilty of abuse of a corpse.
A question from the jury about simplifying the language defining abuse of a corpse as a criminal count was submitted Thursday afternoon, and Judge Donald Oda replied that they already had all the information they needed to reach a verdict.
Richardson shook and cried as the not guilty verdicts were read. After the announcement that she was convicted on the corpse abuse count, she was led away in handcuffs. That's a charge that could carry up to 12 months behind bars. The sentencing phase of the case starts Friday at 11am.
