Sheriff: Vandals Spray-Painted Anderson High School

( Anderson Twp ) - The Hamilton County Sheriff says his office is investigating a case of vandalism at Anderson High School.

Someone, described in a release as an "unknown male," allegedly spray-painted graffiti on the school grounds. Pictures released by the department show graffiti on a baseball field dugout and on the track. Investigators say the graffiti contained profane language as well.

The team name for the school is Redskins, and there have been spikes in controversy, locally, surrounding the use of that term in years' past. Most recently, the Branding and Mascot Committee in June, 2018, recommended keeping the name. During that period, committee members reported being threatened by people on both sides of the issue. At the time, one of the issues was the cost of changing the team name: estimated as high as $450,000.
