( Dayton, Ohio ) - Investigators gave an update Thursday on the Aug 4 shooting in the Oregon District that killed nine and wounded more than a dozen others.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr Kent Harshbarger says one of the people killed by the gunman was also shot by police in a way that would've been fatal had it happened on its own. There was also a second person, also killed by Connor Betts, who suffered a police gunshot wound in a superficial way. Dr Harshbarger says Betts' body had 52 gunshot wounds--though that includes both entrance and exit wounds. Dr Harshbarger estimated Betts was shot between 24 and 26 times.

Betts allegedly had alcohol, cocaine, and the drug alprazolam (used to treat anxiety) in his system at the time. Investigators say Betts also had a small bag of cocaine in his pocket.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said it was a chaotic scene and he personally apologized to the families of the people shot by police weapons.
