Drugged Driver Gets Maximum Sentence In Crash That Killed Off-Duty Cop

(Clermont County) - A judge handed a drugged driver the maximum sentence today for a crash that killed an off-duty police officer.

Justin M. Watts was sentenced to 13-years behind bars by Judge Jerry McBride for the crash that killed Clear Creek officer Jerrid M. Lee in January.

Lee was on Ohio 125 in Amelia when Watts hit his vehicle head-on.

Watts pleaded guilty to charges last month and admitted to be high on fentanyl when he crashed into Watts' vehicle. He also told Judge McBride that he takes full responsibility for Lee's death. McBride said he does believe Watts is remorseful, but had to give him the full sentence since Lee and his family will never get his life back.
