Spike in Gun Violence Continues in Cincinnati

It is the thirteenth homicide in Cincinnati in less than thirty days.

Police have identified the victim in the latest case of deadly gun violence as 37 year old Jerome Young of East Price Hill. Young was shot to death on June 27,2019 at 5:00AM on Back Street near Grant Park in Over the Rhine. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 352-3040. No possible motive in the shooting has been revealed. Young has a long criminal history in Hamilton County that includes time in prison for drugs, weapon possession, assault and robbery.

The city is in the midst of a spike in gun violence with more murders reported in June than in the first five months of the year combined. Police say they don't know what is behind the uptick in shootings and arrests have only been made in 4 of the past 13 cases. Assistant Chief Paul Neudigate told our Scott Sloan earlier this week that if you are a homicide victim most likely, "you know your attacker and you have wronged them in some way or there is some type of retribution they are looking at."
