Hours Long SWAT Standoff in Erlanger Ends Peacefully

( Erlanger, KY ) - A Northern Kentucky man already facing felony charges from an arrest in January, is now in more trouble after an hours long SWAT standoff Saturday night.

It started as a domestic situation at a home in the 700 block of Plum Tree Lane. Police were called out for an argument between Derek Gibson, 44, and his ex-girlfriend.

According to Boone County dispatch, Gibson had broken his ex-girlfriend’s back window and poured gasoline into the home, before fleeing on foot.

Deputies searched the area for Gibson for four hours before a neighbor spotted him walking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence.

Boone County SWAT officers were then called to the scene. After hours of failed negotiations, the SWAT Team made entry into the home and found Gibson hunkered down in the attic.

He was taken into custody without further incident.
