Police: Heroin Addict Stole Woman's Car from Hospital with Children Inside

( Middletown ) - Two children are ok after the car they were sitting in was stolen Thursday afternoon from a hospital.

Police say they children were in a car driven by their 69-year-old grandmother, who was dropping off a friend at Atrium Medical Center. As the grandmother was helping her friend get into the medical facility, 24-year-old Dalvir Singh allegedly hopped in the driver's seat and drove off.

In a statement posted to Twitter, Chief Muterspaw says the 8-year-old boy struggled with Singh and was able to pull his 10-year-old sister out of the vehicle as it drove off. They fell out of the back door on the passenger side. Not seeing that the kids were out, the grandmother ran up on the driver's side and hung on to the vehicle. It allegedly dragged her until it got too fast and she let go.

The statement says not long after, police saw the stolen car and arrested Singh. Police say he's a heroin addict who's now charged with kidnapping, felonious assault, and grand theft.
