Roebling Bridge Closed After Sandstone Falls From North Tower

John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge

(Cincinnati) - The Roebling Suspension Bridge is closing Wednesday at 4 p.m. until further notice.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the closure is a safety procedure after sandstone fragments broke off of the bridge's north tower on Tuesday. The eastbound sidewalk is closed on the bridge, but the westbound portion will remain open for walkers. Officials say they closure is necessary to protect people from debris falling on them from above.

More than 8,000 vehicles use the bridge each day.
