Chief: Officers Caught in 'Ambush Type Situation'

( Middletown, Ohio ) - A police officer was injured before a suspect was arrested early Thursday morning in what the police chief is calling an "ambush type situation."

In a post on Twitter, Middletown Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw says a suspect hid in bushes and approached police with a knife. Officers were called to Bavarian Dr around 1am on reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. 49-Year-Old Jason Cooper allegedly approached Officer Patrick Glassburn with a knife. Police say he refused to drop the weapon, and Officer Glassburn deployed his Taser. Police say the Taser didn't have an effect, and Cooper got into Officer Glassburn's cruiser. He's accused of crashing the cruiser into another police vehicle, driven by Officer Ryan Morgan.

Cooper was eventually taken into custody. He's facing multiple charges.

Officer Morgan was injured in the crash. He was treated and released from a hospital.
