Sheriff: Man Ignored Traffic Light in Deadly Crash

( Florence, Kentucky ) - Emergency crews were called to a deadly crash early Friday morning on Burlington Pike.

The Boone County Sheriff says just before 2:30am, a car driven by 36-year-old Joseph Sohmer allegedly drove through the red light at the intersection with Aero Parkway, striking a tractor-trailer driven by a Hamilton man. The sheriff describes the crash as a broadside "T-bone" style crash, and says Sohmer's car drove underneath the entire trailer and out the other side. That car ended up off the road in a grass embankment.

Sohmer was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he was not wearing his seat belt, and that speed and alcohol are suspected factors in the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
