Weight Shift Caused Crash that Closed I-75 for Rollover, Paint Spill

( Arlington Heights ) - Two vehicles trying to merge into the same lane is what led to the crash on Tuesday afternoon that shut down part of I-75 well into the night.

A statement from Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil says a semi truck headed north on I-75 just north of the Ronald Reagan exit was changing lanes from the left lane to the center when a blue Ford Mustang "abruptly" changed lanes from the right lane to the center. The sheriff says the truck driver then swerved to avoid a crash, causing a weight shift in his cargo. That shift caused the truck to tip, striking a guard rail, and ripping open the trailer, spilling paint onto the highway and onto a construction work site on E Galbraith below. Neither the truck driver nor the construction workers were hurt.

Investigators say neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash, but they are still looking for the driver of the Mustang.
