Jury Recommends Death For Convicted Killer Anthony Kirkland

Anthony Kirkland

(Cincinnati)  -  Convicted serial killer Anthony Kirkland may receive the death penalty after a jury recommended it Monday afternoon.

The judge trying the case will decide if he takes the jury’s recommendation later this month. Judge Patrick Dinkelacker set a hearing for August 28.

The jury reached its decision just hours after closing arguments on Monday afternoon.

The Ohio Supreme Court vacated Kirkland’s original death sentence because they ruled Prosecutor Joe Deters made an inappropriate remark during the closing arguments of the 2010 trial.  This was when Kirkland was tried for the rapes and murders of 13-year-old Esme Kinney and 14-year-old Casonya Crawford.

Kirkland has also been convicted of killing 45-year-old Mary Jo Newton and 27-ear-old Kimya Rolison.
