Michael Cohen is expected to fully cooperate with federal investigators after reports that his legal team has quit. Cohen had been represented by Attorneys Stephen Ryan and Todd Harrison from the New York law firm McDermott, Will & Emery LLP. It is unclear who will represent him going forward.
Cohen, who was President Trump's personal lawyer, has been under federal investigation for months over possible charges of bank fraud and campaign finance violations. The investigation led to federal officials seizing 3.7 million records during a search of his office, home, and a hotel room in April.
The search received a rebuke from the Trump who said that "Attorney-client privilege is dead!” in a tweet the day after the raid.
Investigators are probing Cohen's payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, which was made weeks before the 2016 presidential election to keep her quiet about a decade-old affair she had with Trump weeks before the 2016 presidential election. President Trump later revealed he reimbursed Cohen for the $130,000 payment.
