Divers Searching For Missing Boater In Hamilton

(Hamilton, OH) - The Hamilton Fire Department, along with the help from the Butler County Emergency Management Agency is using sonar technology to search for a man suspected of being a drowning victim.

Benjamin Gipson, 29, was kayaking Sunday afternoon on the Great Miami River in downtown Hamilton with William Strobel, 35,  when their kayaks capsized near the Main Street/High Street bridge around 3 p.m.

Strobel was rescued by a person on a jet-ski and water rescue crews looked for the Gipson.

Just before 5 p.m., Chief of Police Craig Bucheit reported the mission transitioned from rescue to recovery.

The Dive team looked for the missing boater's body, but did not find him before they had to end operations for the night.

Rescue operations resumed Monday morning at 9 a.m.
