Cincinnati Police warn of phone scam

( Cincinnati )  - The Cincinnati Police Department is warning of a new telephone scam.

Police say an elderly victim in District 4 got a call at around 11 a.m. Wednesday from a person claiming to be their grandson.  The person said they were arrested and needed money wired from Western Union to pay for pail.

The victim said they wired the large amount of money to the suspect.

Police say that most phone calls like this are scams and this one in particular is known as the “Grandparent Scam.”

Anyone who receives a call like this is reminded by police to stay calm, ask to speak to the relative in person and ask for a contact phone number.
