Gas Line Break Forces Evacuation

( Covington, Kentucky ) - A gas line rupture on Latonia Avenue forced people to evacuate their homes Friday afternoon.

A construction worker caused the break that kept people out of their homes for two hours, Covington officials say. No one was hurt during the incident.

The operator of an excavator was digging up the street at around 2 p.m. when they hit the gas line at the corner of 35th Street and Latonia Avenue, causing natural gas to leak into the air. Duke Energy crews came to repair the leak. Residents were able to return home by 4 p.m., Covington Police Chief Mark Pierce said.
