Local Sheriff Calls for Tighter School Security

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones is putting pressure on local school boards to take action to make their buildings more secure. The top law enforcement officer in the county is pushing for metal detectors at every door.  Jones has written a letter to all of the school districts in Butler County to take action to secure their facilities in the same way that airports and concert arena's already do. The sheriff is also asking the schools to hire more resource officers and to change fire drill procedures. Sheriff Jones says, “we can’t keep just talking about what we need to do. We need to act on this now. The schools need to do something. Talking about it doesn’t keep our kids safe”.
