KSP: Man Shot by Erlanger Police After Pulling a Gun

( Erlanger, KY ) - A man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting in Erlanger Wednesday night. 

Kentucky State Police say two officers from the Erlanger Police Department were pursuing 40 year-old Dexter Helton on a felony drug warrant out of Kenton County. They found him inside Peecox Bar and Grill on Donaldson Highway around 8pm.

Helton took off out the back door of the bar, and once outside, pulled a gun and pointed it at the officers. Investigators say the two officers were placed in a life-threatening situation and had no choice but to open fire. 

Helton was critically injured and was aircared to UC Medical. 

Neither Officer was injured and neither have been identified.

Kentucky State Police will be going over body cam and surveillance video as part of their investigation.
