( Hamilton County ) - Commissioner Todd Portune is recovering from leg amputation surgery, and he says things are going better than he expected.
Portune released a statement on Wednesday, thanking his family and friends for their well wishes. He says "prayers and support are a real blessing in my recovery." He says the operation "went textbook and I am recovering far quicker than I thought."

The surgery was conducted on Monday to treat connective-tissue sarcoma. Portune's left leg was amputated above the knee after doctors recently discovered the malignant tumor.
He says he would prefer that anyone who wishes to send flowers to instead make a donation to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati on Wesley Avenue in Norwood.
