City Committee To Hold Hearing on Responsible Bidder Ordinance

(Cincinnati, OH) - On Tuesday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. in Council Chambers, the Economic Growth and Zoning Committee will take up a discussion of the 2012 ordinances known as “Responsible Bidder” and “Local Hire.”

The hearing, which has been requested by City Manager Harry Black, is reviewing a recent report from the administration detailing the law’s negative impact on the city’s inclusion efforts and water rate increases.

The Committee is scheduled to vote on an ordinance that will stay the enforcement of the “Responsible Bidder” and “Local Hire” ordinances for six months until a more in-depth analysis can be made including market research, local contractors and apprenticeship programs.

Critics of the ordinances have said they discriminate against minority and women-owned businesses.
