Florence Police Arrest Escaped Inmate

(Florence, Ky) - The Florence Police Department have arrested an escapee from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. The escapee, 49-year-old Gary Courtney of Berry, KY, was in the Harrison County Courthouse in Cynthiana on Monday around 3 p.m. and fled on foot with handcuffs and shackles on. It was also reported that he was possibly in a stolen 2001 Ford Ranger that was taken from a maintenance garage in Cynthiana.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday,  Lt. Joe Maier located the vehicle on Ewing Blvd. and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled into the lot of 7711 Ewing Blvd. and Courtney fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit he was apprehended by officers inside of a nearby business. 

A female passenger,  26-year-old Jessica Gault of  Berry, KY, also fled on foot and was located at the Speedway Gas Station on US42.

Courtney (pictured below) was arrested and transported to the Boone County Detention Center and charged with: Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing and Evading 2nd , a parole violation warrant , and warrants from Harrison County for Escape, Theft of an Auto, Theft of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Criminal Trespass 2nd and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Gault was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property and also transported to the Boone County Detention Center.
