Westerville Police Officers Killed in Line of Duty

(Westerville, OH) Police have now identified the two Westerville police officers shot and killed in the line of duty. 

Investigators say 39-year-old Eric Joering and 54-year-old Tony Morrelli were responding to a 9-1-1 hang up call just after noon Saturday when they were met with gunfire.

Officer Joering, a 17 year veteran with the department, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Morrelli had been with the department for 30 years. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police confirm a suspect was also shot and taken to the hospital. There's no word on his condition.

Governor John Kasich says he's very saddened to learn of the deaths in his hometown. President Trump has also responded with a tweet, saying his thoughts and prayers are with the two officers, their families and everyone at the Westerville Police Department.
