Life-Threatening Injuries Boone County Crash

( Union, Kentucky ) - Emergency crews, including medical helicopters, were called to a crash involving three vehicles around 11am Saturday morning.

The Boone County Sheriff says an SUV driven by a Verona woman was passing a car on US 42 between Rice Pike and Richwood Road when it crashed into an oncoming Rumpke garbage truck. The SUV went off the road and flipped multiple times, the garbage truck also crashed into the car and ending up off the road, the car spun out and also stopped off of the road. Responding crews had that part of US 42 closed for much of the day for cleanup of debris and spilled fuel.

A statement from the sheriff says the driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital and then flown to UC Medical center with potentially life-threatening injuries. The woman driving the car was flown from the scene, she's in critical, but stable, condition. She also had two children in the car with her, and one of them is at Cincinnati Children's Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt.

No charges have been filed at this time, but investigators believe the SUV was passing in a "No Passing Zone" at the time of the crash.
