(Cincinnati) - With W-2 forms starting to arrive from employers, tax season is kicking off. The City of Cincinnati is offering free tax preparation beginning Saturday January 27th at the North Avondale Recreation Center from 9AM-1PM There will be 6 other help sessions offered.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati chapters of the Red Cross and United Way are offering free tax preparation for those eligible for the earned income tax credit. The Red Cross office at 211 Dana Avenue is one of nearly 40 sites around the Tri-state offering the service. Volunteers take upwards of 20 hours of rigorous training. The tax preparation takes place every Wednesday (4 p.m.- 7 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
Marita Salkowski with the Red Cross said the program is very popular so those wanting help should arrive early.
"These services are provided on a first-come first-serve walk-in basis only. No appointments are taken," said Salkowski.
Salkowski said those participating should also bring ID and all tax forms needed to file their returns. For anyone unable to make it to the help session can also file online. MyFreeTaxes is completely free for individuals and families who earned less than $66,000 in 2017.
