( Liberty Township, OH ) - A 10 year-old boy is being held hostage inside an apartment complex in Liberty Township.
The Butler County Sheriff says a SWAT team was called out to the Springs at Liberty Township apartments after a man barricaded himself inside with the child starting around 1am Saturday morning.
Sheriff Richard Jones says the suspect is armed and has fired several rounds at police. No officers have been hit, though equipment has been damaged. Speaking to reporters, the sheriff guessed some 20 to 30 rounds were fired.
In an update Saturday afternoon, the sheriff said the suspect and the child were in a vehicle in the garage of the home. He said officers were communicating with the suspect, but he was reluctant to refer to it as "negotiating."
