Former Mayor Tom Luken Passes Away

( Cincinnati ) - A former mayor and congressman has passed away.

Tom Luken has died at the age of 92. His career serving the people of Cincinnati lasted decades.

Tom Luken was on Cincinnati City Council in the 1960s and 70s, and he was mayor in 1971 and 1972. Luken also represented the Cincinnati area in Congress in the mid to late 1970s, into the 1980s, ending in 1991.

When word of his passing broke, current local leaders started expressing their condolences.

Luken was a frequent caller to 700WLW's Bill Cunningham after his time in office. Cunningham says "Tom Luken was the grandfather of the modern Democratic party in Hamilton County."

Luken's son, Charlie Luken, also served the area as Cincinnati Mayor and congressman.
