Fiona Brings in Big Bucks to Zoo

(Cincinnati, Oh.)--The Cincinnati Zoo's wold famous baby hippo, has brought in over nearly half a million dollars to the Zoo. 

Since her birth The zoo has collected about $480,000 in sales of Fiona themed merchandise though partnerships with businesses. 

Fiona themed products include everything from books to clothing as well as ornaments and playing cards to beer and ice cream.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the Zoo isn't keeping track of cash the hippo-themed products are turning over. However, Zoo spokeswoman Michelle Curley says more than $200,000 of the money was used for Fiona's neonatal care. Curley says the remainder is helping with the care, feeding and enrichment of all the zoo's hippos. The zoo will be celebrating Fiona's first birthday Jan. 24. The celebration is also expected to boost sales of Fiona themed merchandise as businesses introduce more products.
