(Douglas County, Co) -- One Officer is dead and several more officers wounded after a suspect open fire on them in Douglas County, Colorado. The Douglas County, Colorado Sheriff's Office is confirming that one deputy is dead, 4 other deputies and 2 civilians have been hurt in the situation at an apartment complex in suburban Denver.
The shooting happened as deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call around 6A.M. in Highlands Ranch, 18 miles south of Denver. A SWAT Team was called in to the the Copper Canyon apartment complex after officers came under fire.
A "Code Red" alert was sent out by Douglas County Police telling residents to shelter in place. That has since been lifted. Multiple police officers and at least 8 ambulances were called to the scene. The suspected gunman is believed dead.
