Cincinnati Symphony Nominated for a Grammy

( Over-the-Rhine ) - The Recording Academy has taken notice of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the CSO, under the direction of Louis Langree, has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

The nominees for "Best Orchestral Performance:"

• Concertos For Orchestra      Louis Langrée, conductor (Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra)

• Copland: Symphony No. 3; Three Latin American Sketches      Leonard Slatkin, conductor (Detroit Symphony Orchestra)

• Debussy: Images; Jeux & La Plus Que Lente      Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor (San Francisco Symphony)

• Mahler: Symphony No. 5      Osmo Vänskä, conductor (Minnesota Orchestra)

• Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5; Barber: Adagio      Manfred Honeck, conductor (Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra)

Also, composer Zhou Tian is nominated for "Best Contemporary Classical Composition" for that CSO performance of Concertos for Orchestra.

"All those pieces were created and commissioned for Cincinnati. That's also something very special," says Chris Pinelo, Vice President of Communications for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
