Former Cincy Female Major Bobbi Sterne Dies

(700 WLW)-  Cincinnati's second female mayor, Bobbie Sterne, has died at the age of 97. She served two terms as mayor, from 1975 to 1976 and 1978 to 1979.

Upon learning of Sterne's passing, former Mayor Jerry Springer wrote, "Bobbie was the perfect model of what a true public servant should be. We came on City Council the same day and it's hard to think of a time during our 10 years together that I wasn't learning something from her. It's sad that a younger generation today subjected to so much crassness in our politics never got to see the class and character she epitomized. It was a privilege to know her."

Current Mayor John Cranley issued a statement about her this afternoon.

"A true Champion of Cincinnati's spirit Has been lost. As a tremendous public health advocate, voice for the voiceless, and overall Great Cincinnatian, we are blessed to inherit her legacy. She set a standard for public service in both her council and Mayoral terms, and I am inspired by her get-it-done spirit to continue doing all I can to make Cincinnati the best it can be for us all. I was lucky enough to get to know her early in my career and benefited from her support and sage advice. Rest peacefully Mayor Sterne, my prayers are with her family and friends."

Sterne had moved to California six years ago to be with her daughters.
