(Cincinnati, Oh.)--Police officers at The University of Cincinnati will once again carry stun guns, years after they were taken away from officers following a student's death.
The University announced this week that they have begun training officers to properly carry and use the stun guns and have updated their use-of-force policy.
They were taken away from University police officers in 2011 after 18-year-old student Everette Howard went into cardiac arrest when an officer used a stun gun on him outside a dormitory.
Howard was a graduate of North College Hill High School and was enrolled in UC's Upward Bound program which gives recent graduates a chance to earn college credit. The Howard family setteled a lawsite in 2013 with the school for $2 million.
