Man Facing Life Sentence for Deadly Car Wreck

( INDEPENDENCE, KY ) -- Daniel Greis, 57, faces 5 life sentences after police say he was drunkenly driving on the wrong side of Staffordsburg Road, leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle that killed a family of 5.

Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney, Rob Sanders, says that tests at the UC Medical Center showed Greis' blood alcohol level was above the legal limit when he was driving on October 26. Reports show Greis also had suspected marijuana in his possession.

Sanders says that Greis was attempting to pass the vehicle ahead of him, crossing a double yellow line, before hitting an oncoming vehicle head-on, killing the family inside. Those in the vehicle were Rodney Pollitt Jr, 26, Samantha Malohn, 27, and their 3 children, Hailieann, 9, Brenden, 8, and Cailie Pollitt, 6.

Greis was flown to UC Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries. He has since been transported to another medical facility, where Rob Sanders says he will be under 24-hour surveillance until he is able to be taken to jail, pending a trial.
