The Cincinnati Zoo's Henry Passes Away

(Cincinnati, OH)  -- Update:  After an exam this morning, the Cincinnati Zoo says they made the difficult to euthanize Henry. 

The 36 year-old had been battling a chronic illness for months, and he lost hundreds of pounds over that time. Caretakers say nothing seemed to improve his condition, that included antibiotics.

Henry the Hippo a beloved member of the Cincinnati Zoo family is critically ill.  

Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden officials say they are keeping Henry the Hippo as comfortable as possible after he came down with an infection. 

 Although he was treated with antibiotics, the 36-year-old hippopotamus isn't getting any better.  The median life expectancy for a Nile hippo is 35. Zoo officials say they're doing all they can to help Henry enjoy his golden years.
