Distemper Virus Found in Dogs at Boone County Shelter

(Boone County, Ky.)--The distemper virus has been discovered in several dogs at the Boone County Animal Shelter.

The highly contagious virus has affected eighteen shelter dogs. The shelter reports six have recovered, while 12 dogs are still receiving treatment and are reportedly improving.

The animal shelter is urging dog owners to contact their veterinarian to make sure their dogs are up to date on their vaccines.

The shelter has stopped accepting homeless dogs and halted adoptions temporarily.
