( Washington DC ) - More details are being released about the attack on US forces in Niger that killed three Americans. The Department of Defense says one of those Americans was 39-year-old Staff Sgt Jeremiah Johnson of Springboro, Ohio.
Johnson, along with Staff Sgt Bryan Black and Staff Sgt Dustin Wright, were reportedly killed by Islamic extremists while on reconnaissance patrol in southwest Niger. "A joint patrol of the Defense and Security Forces and American partners operating in the border area of Mali fell into an ambush set by terrorist elements aboard a dozen vehicles and about twenty motorcycles," a statement said.
Four Nigerian soldiers were also killed. Two US service members were wounded and evacuated in stable condition.
