(Louisville, KY) -- The Muhammad Ali Childhood Home Museum in Louisville is shut down. The Louisville "Courier-Journal" reports the childhood home of the heavyweight boxing champion known then as Cassius Clay was only open for two years.
A Philadelphia lawyer who opened it along with a fellow Ali fan made the decision to close the museum last week. The owners accused the city of not wanting to join the effort of preserving the Ali home. A spokesman for Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer calls the museum's closing "unfortunate" but added the city had previously contributed 50-thousand dollars to the project the investment group never picked up.
Ali died June 3rd, 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona. His funeral procession went past his childhood home as thousand lined the streets of Louisville to bid the boxing great farewell. Ali was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery.
