Structure Fire Caused By Extension Cord Overheat

(700 WLW)-  Just before 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon,  the Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a telephone call reporting a bedroom fire at the above address. Initial arriving fire companies reported "heavy smoke” on the second floor of a 2-story brick single family dwelling. The only occupant home at the time was wakened from the sounding smoke detector and exited prior to arrival of fire companies. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the bedroom on the 2nd floor.

The cause of the fire was extension cord abuse, the cord overheated igniting the mattress. The Cincinnati Fire Department would like to remind citizens about the dangers of extension cord use and not to use them as a source of permanent wiring.
