Officials in Houston say the flooding has the potential to exceed a thousand-year flood threshold due to how much rain has fallen on the region. The area has gotten about 25-to-30 inches of rain. The tropical storm is expected to linger in the area for the next several days with more rain expected.

Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for areas north of Houston. Around 55-hundred people in Houston are currently staying in shelters. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner says more than 30-thousand people are expected to move into temporary shelters in the Houston area.
