( CINCINNATI, OH ) -- In Westwood, Mayor John Cranley announced that he would be joining with fellow mayors from across the United States, both Democrats and Republicans, in Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
Mayor Cranley said that gun violence in the country is an epidemic and made it clear that it is not foreign to Cincinnati, sighting many shooting deaths each year across the city. He says that the agreement, however, does not at all go against legal gun-owning citizens; it is simply a push to get illegal firearms and those who use and sell them off the streets.
The mayor pointed out that sometimes in shooting cases, it's hard to get witnesses to agree to come forward and testify in court, so the shooter or shooters go free. This agreement, he says, will be a way to send criminals to jail for longer periods of time on illegal firearms charges if they cannot get witnesses to testify in a murder case.
