Why Not Nippert?

Even the commissioner of the MLS tweeted that the scene at Nippert Stadium was "incredible." Don Garber was impressed attending the FC Cincinnati US Open Cup semifinal match against the New York Red Bulls. While Cincinnati lost the match, the team may have scored a much bigger victory by adding to the resume for being awarded an MLS franchise.

Nippert Stadium was sold out for the match which members of the Red Bulls called one of the best environments they have ever experienced for soccer. Now, the question is being asked "Why does FC Cincinnati have to build a new stadium for entry into Major League Soccer?" The question is being raised by the group that has formed to oppose any tax help for stadium construction. No More Stadium Taxes is urging MLS to accept that Nippert is "a high quality venue for an MLS team."

The citizens group says MLS should welcome successful venues like Nippert that attract "far more fans that their own soccer specific stadiums." Matt Wahlert is on the board at No More Stadium Taxes and says "Hamilton County has much bigger needs than subsidizing a new soccer stadium for billionaires especially when we already have at least one fantastic soccer stadium."
