Suspected Virginia Driver Lived in Florence

(Charlottesville, VA)--A Maumee, Ohio man with a Tri-State connection is being charged with second-degree murder for driving a car into a crowd of counter-protesters at a white nationalist rally in Virginia.

Charlottesville Police say James Fields Jr. is also facing charges of malicious wounding and failure to stop at the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

The 20-year old white man is the registered owner of the car that drove into protesters at a crowded intersection, killing a woman and injuring more than a dozen.  Police say they are investigating it as a criminal homicide.

Fields' mother tells the Toledo Blade that she and her son recently moved to Maumee from Florence for a new job.
