The manhunt is over. The Paulding County Sheriff’s office reports officers found 32-year-old Branden Lee Powell in a basement crawl space of his parent's home in Antwerp Monday night. They tried to lure him out but he was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 9:30 p.m.
Powell had been on the run since last Friday after he overpowered a deputy, took his gun, and fled. He was facing rape charges and had slit his throat in a suicide attempt. He was hospitalized. It was during his transfer from the hospital back to the jail that he escaped.
