Ohio Executes First Inmate in Three Years

(Lucasville) It took place without complication. For the first time in three years, Ohio has executed a death row inmate.

Ronald Phillips had been convicted in the 1993 rape and murder of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter. He was put to death by lethal injection.

Phillips was among Ohio's death row inmates who had challenged the state's new three drug method. After a round of appeals, the U-S Supreme Court gave approval Tuesday night for that execution to move forward.

Ohio's death penalty process had been on hold after problems during a 2014 execution.
