Credit Card Skimmer Found at Gas Station

(Hamilton County, Oh.)--The Hamilton County Auditor announced a credit card skimmer was found on Glendale Milford Rd. Auditor Dusty Rhodes says it was found at the Shell Food Mart on Glendale-Milford Road.

Ohio County Auditors have previously launched “Skimmer Sweep” programs were Inspectors visit gas stations in targeted locations, checking more than 12,000 Ohio gas pumps for the devices.

Consumers are advised to always be alert when refueling and they should use credit cards rather than debit cards. Using a debit cards at the pump risk can increase your risk that your PIN number could be stolen for the purpose of identity theft. 

Credit card skimmers are often equipped with Bluetooth technology, which allow identity thieves to access your private information from a distance up to 100 yards away. Anything that seems out of place or indicates that a pump has been tampered with should be reported immediately.
