(Maysville, KY)--Mason County's judge-executive has declared a state of emergency, after heavy rains caused flooding, and forced water rescues from homes and vehicles.
Tim Nolder, director of the Maysville-Mason County Emergency Management Agency, said that calls for assistance started coming in around 11 p.m. Saturday. He said that there were 122 calls for service as of 3:30 a.m Sunday.
Nolder said there were approximately 10 to 15 water rescues. There were no injuries or fatalities. There were also several road closures.
Nolder said Buffalo Trace Search and Rescue responded with its boat to a residence on Key Pike, south of Maysville.. One family was rescued there. Some officers and volunteers were able to wade to the homes to get people out, since the water was not moving swiftly.
Nolder said a shelter is available, but the Red Cross has not yet had to open it.
Nolder said the water is even up to his garage. He says its the worst he has seen in 30 years.
He said some small buildings have been damaged, but no reports of severe damage. But he added that local leaders will have a better idea of damage once the sun comes up.
"Everyone's been accounted for, and we're holding our own," he added.
