Blue Lives Matter Law Takes Effect in Kentucky

(Kentucky) It classifies violence against police officers and other first responders as a hate crime. Kentucky is now just one of two states with the "Blue Lives Matter" law.

The law add protections for police officers, firefighters and EMTs who are performing their duties to the state's current hate crime law.

Opponents have argued state law already stipulates harsher penalties for those kind of crimes.

Louisiana became the first state to pass the measure in May of last year.
